Relying on Darkness
"Relying on Darkness" is one of six paintings from my graduation project, "Psychological Beings," which explores the cultural taboos surrounding mental health in my society. The creation of this artwork spanned approximately six months, from the initial concept to its completion in April 2019. This piece delves into the complexities of chronic depression, capturing the unsettling phenomenon of dependency on depression, where being perpetually depressed feels like the "right" state of being. The first figure, rendered in a muted pink hue, symbolizes an individual who has fallen into a profound state of hopelessness and despair. This figure leans into a second figure, depicted in a deep teal shade, representing the allure of depression and the paradoxical sense of comfort and peace it offers as it draws one further into its depths.
