Early Thaw

Pastel, both hard and soft, on BFK paper, light watercolor underpainting for value placement. I begin my landscapes plein aire, usually then finish from photos in the studio. The landscape is a sanctuary and to be able to be out in it, to be a part of the visual breadth of it is something only the painter sees, feels, experiences. Hopefully I'm able to convey a small part of that in my work.
