Winter Whites

New fallen snow is a great time for me to find painting subjects. I love coniferous trees, with their snow laden branches, drooping downward with white weighty fluff. The longer studying whites the more color and value differences are discovered. A dark backdrop of shadow created an excellent contrast for my focal point. The ground is illuminated with tints of ultramarine and phthalo blues, cadmium red dark and white, the sunshine glints of sparkle were added with pure white adding to a magical winter quality.
