I painted this during a winter residency at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. As a painting resident, I spent a great deal of time on the grounds of Penland making small paintings and drawings. This work depicts “Lear House” , a historic living quarters on campus which has living quarters and a community kitchen for the winter residents. I specifically wanted to paint my reflection in the window as a nod to one of my favorite painters, Lois Dodd. The plein air studies that I made on campus worked their way into a larger studio painting which I finished at the end of the residency.
