Koi Joy

Koi fish are rich in symbolism, beauty, and a source of inspiration. Known in Asia since the 4th century, by the 19th they were adored and cultivated in Japan. They are associated with good fortune, prosperity, and abundance in the New Year. Living in Hawaii most of my life, koi ponds are abundant in the islands and they offer great inspiration as an artist. I wanted to capture the myriad of colors and swirling action of these fish as they meandered through the painting.
