Painting a landscape scene, to me, is an act that deeply connects me to nature. It is a soothing, meditative act that brings me great peace. The beauty of nature is irreplaceable and needs to be recorded in an authentic yet soulful manner. There is something deeply soulful and moving, something almost intangible, that comes with studying, absorbing, and then depicting a scene in an unhurried manner as brush and paint demands. Every brush stroke, every thought that comes with the stroke of a brush, connects with something much larger than ourselves. The slow reproduction with added emotion and subjective viewpoint is a conversation with a larger entity - call it God, call it the Universe, call it Nature, call it what you will.
The hope is that, as a landscape artist, the sheer magnitude of the moment experienced in nature is conveyed with enough emotion and soul to arrest the viewer and have them consider the beauty that surrounds us. In a world where we are often busy with our day-to-day lives, engrossed in where we are going, in what we desire to achieve, create, or experience, I hope this painting will let you stop, contemplate, and behold the beauty that already surrounds us.
