I have never had the opportunity to paint a live volcanic eruption. The odds of that ever happening again are astronomically high. I painted this and one other (Boom! Kilauea Eruption) en plein air from the crater rim at the steam vents of Volcano National Park on January 28, 2025. The volcano stopped erupting exactly when I finished my second painting.
